The basic punctuations

Use correct punctuation is important which can help us to recongnize the whole structure.

The basic punctuations



The comma

The Comma is to help readers to avoid misreading about the sentence. Without it, sentence parts will become another unexpectedly meaning. Also, the comma is used for separate complex grammatical structures.

Ira ordered a rich, chocolate, layer cake.



The semicolon

Unless you brush your teeth within ten or fifteen minutes after eating; brushing does no good.

The semicolon is used to connect major sentence elements of equal grammatical rank.



The colon

Faith is like love: it cannot be forced.



Quotation marks

The bookHarry Potter is very famous around teenagers.



The period

You need to study very hard.



The question mark

Do you want to drink something?



The exclamation point

When Carla entered the room, I switched on the lights and we all yelled: “surprise!



The dash

In my hometown the basic needs of people- clothing ,food, and shelter.



Parentheses



Brackets



The slash

Roger, the produce/director, announced a casting change.
